I just read this today, words of advice given to a parent of a small child having a tantrum, and though I do not have a small child (or any other kind), I was struck by the idea all the same.
"Nothing very good and nothing very bad lasts for very long."
Thoughts?
So very true! Everything is fleeting.
ReplyDeleteI once saw a dad seated on a bench in a department store, holding onto his patience, while his baby of about 15 months threw a no-holds tantrum, screaming, throwing her head and body backwards as they do at that age, just completely losing it.
ReplyDeleteI had a new baby and a two year old three times. I get it.
I completely ignored the dad, managed to catch the kid square in the eye as I walked by--carefully not too close--and said to her with a loving smile, Yeah. I've had days like that.
She looked at me wide-eyed, suddenly silent, while I stood there a moment thinking how adorable she was, and she slowly slid into her daddy's lap, looking at me in wonder and shy happiness.
Only then did I look at him, and his face was an intense, Oh thank you. THANK you!
They both completely made my day and I'll never forget it.
I don't know if I find the sentiment comforting or distressing.
