Well, well, well!

  1. My husband and I were just having a discussion about this and whether or not it's really a terrible sign for democracy. I mean, is it just going to be retaliation and throwing politicians in prison as the balance of power switches from one party to the other? Or is this a reminder to all politicians that no one is above the law and it's needed to make sure rule of law remains paramount? It's really unclear to me if this is something that should be celebrated.

(I am also trying to look at this situation as if it were someone else, someone I supported. If it were a politician I agreed with, how would this situation feel? It's all strange and hard because it is THIS TERRIBLE MAN, but I also am really worried about long-term consequences.)

  2. Such good news. President Ulysses Grant was pulled over and booked at the police station for speeding with his carriage by a very apologetic cop, and this former guy has done so so so much worse to flout the rule of law. No one is above the law. Our democracy can breathe a little easier now.
