Ready for the CBBC, and a Very Cute Cat

I'm reading a book for a book club! I know, I have probably written before about how book clubs and I are not the greatest match. But in this case, Engie's Cool Bloggers Book Club (for which you do not have to be a blogger to participate), is reading The Blue Castle, which may just be my favorite of LM Montgomery's books. Yes, possibly above Anne of Green Gables! I probably read it for the first time in high school: I'm not sure I knew of it before Mom and I went to PEI, just before my senior year, and learned that there was more to the author than Anne.

And because it's such a favorite, I already own a copy, so I don't have to chase one down. It's not my childhood copy, but I love this physical copy specifically. It's an old ex-library copy:

Very old, in fact.

Apparently it was Nellie's book at some point from the print date of 1926 on, and was then given to the library in 1978.

I love an old library book, and this one just fits into my hand perfectly. I'm looking forward to the re-read, with my Blue Castle postcard as a bookmark.

And yes, the very cute cat in the title is Maggie. She has been particularly adorable recently. Enjoy!

  1. Oh goodness, you are PREPARED! A super fan! <3

I remember reading the Anne books when I was a teen, and I loved them, but I never re-read them. I'm excited for The Blue Castle, my copy comes on Monday!

    1. I am just an anonymous commenter, but there are tons of short stories and a bunch of books beyond Anne! Some of these I only met as an adult, but still thoroughly enjoyed them. I also love The Blue Castle, but my personal favorite is Jane of Lantern Hill, for the "person out of place and not thriving finds their place and thrives" delight of it all, but different books speak to different people (a close friend loves the Emily series best). For the writings that are in the public domain (in free ebook form!), see https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/36 - but also any library will have a chunk of them.

    2. I also love Jane! I'm writing a follow-up post about some of Lucy Maud's other books.

  3. Wow. That old book is a treasure. You're really prepared.
I've never read it, nor have I ever read the Anne books. I went from The Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew into adult fare.

    1. If I had to guess, my mother probably found Anne at a book sale. A lot of my youthful reading happened that way!

  4. How did I not know there was another LMMontgomery book?! We bought the complete Anne set when I was a kid and we were in Prince Edward Island and I love those books. Thank you for the heads-up!

  5. I have never read The Blue Castle (despite owning and re-reading the full Anne Series many times). I LOVE your copy of the book and am so excited for this book club. As you know, I live close to PEI, so I feel extra happy to dive into a "new-to-me" book by LM Montgomery.
