Walking on a Fun-House Floor, Under a Storm Cloud

Important note: I am NOT asking for advice. This situation absolutely sucks, and I accept all sympathy, but I hear a lot of "you should report this" and "tell the city/the local paper/Nextdoor" and nope, not today, please.

I'm not sure that I've ever walked through a fun house at a carnival: maybe when I was a kid? Probably. I seem to recall not liking the unsteadiness underfoot, anyway, though I may be projecting my imagination onto scenes from movies.

Next week will be six months since the elevator broke. Coming and going from the 6th floor, I have done 1,240 flights of stairs as of this moment in time; by the six-month mark, it will be closer to 1,300. I feel like I'm walking on that fun-house floor, and also like there's a storm cloud over me, fogging up everything.

If you've lost track of the saga, they did finally manufacture the piston and got it here in September, but when they started removing the broken piston, they saw damage to the piston housing. That put an immediate stop on the repairs, and of course it's a different type of company that fixes this, so the board had to go through finding companies and getting estimates, and so on, again.

They now have a drilling company lined up, but the company has to get a crew* free to come here, and fitting a 2-to-4-week slot into their schedule has proved difficult. We were told today that they will continue trying, but can't promise they can start before the holidays. Apparently they will commit to starting in January, which would give us a working elevator in February, roughly nine months after the thing broke.
*Here's hoping there are no burst appendixes this time.

So.

The board president came by shortly after that email, to drop something off, and when I opened the door he said cautiously, "Is it safe?" Yeah, we're not thrilled with him, but honestly it's more the situation. I certainly don't envy him the position.

I went with usual coping mechanisms today, eating chocolate, ordering yarn*...what would be your comforts, in this situation?

*I loved the message of this, but also the colorway:

Have you voted yet? If not, can I encourage you to?
