Weird Spamish Email

In addition to actual spam emails, in recent months I have been getting a noticeable amount of emails that seem to come from legit sources, but nothing that I have signed up: New Jersey Beach Report, or the Alzheimer's Association, which has decided that I need an email from them every few days for no reason that I can tell.

Today, I got this:

At a glance, at least, it seems to be a real company (and I don't care enough to search for more info about it). But "We Noticed You Stopping By..."? I didn't! I've never heard of them, and I'm certainly not searching on men's skincare.

What the heck? Is this happening to other people?

  1. There is so much spam in email and now text messages too. They've gotten quite sophisticated and much of it looks real. Luckily, I 'm very distrustful.

  2. I am one letter shy of several similarly-named peoples' email addresses, so I get a bunch of their emails as well. (... my email address was printed as someone else's *in a church directory* once.) Your shower faucet is here! Ukelele club! North Dakota Hotel Management Opportunity! Skincare!

Buuut also things are getting more aggressive with email harvesting, etc., so I do not know. I'd bet that the "we saw you checking this out" is a scam/harvest thing.

Unless, of course, Newman has been concerned about his skincare regimen and you've left your laptop open sometimes...

    1. I'm pretty sure he can't be bothered! Someone I know gets a ton of emails for someone else, like scheduling furniture deliveries and other important things, and says she has notified the person but it keeps happening. So weird!

  3. For months, I was getting ads for these gorgeous leather holsters (like for a gun). I am definitely not going to buy a holster, but those holsters were gorgeous.
Also, the Spotify algorithm definitely has me confused for someone else because the ads I get are for diapers, Catholic schools, and high-priced luxury SUVs. Rock on, Spotify.

    1. Yeah, I wouldn't exactly mind the ads not knowing me, but sometimes they can be very odd!

  4. I figure anything the page lingers on, whatever ad was on that page they think you must want it.

What's really creepy is when you talk about something and ads for it start popping up. What's bizarre is, for me right now, ads for fancy kitchen faucets after I had a new kitchen faucet installed a week ago. How many kitchens do their bots think we have?

  5. My money is on someone who has a similar email address mis-typing their info. I get a ton of emails for CBD products that I have never signed up for. Fun.
