Overheard in a Chinese Restaurant
Customer: What is in the lobster sauce?
Employee: It's a brown sauce.
Customer: But what is in it?
Employee: Ahhhh....
I wonder if he didn't know? Or perhaps his English was not up to the explanation. Other possibilities?
I was wondering if it was sauce FOR a lobster or sauce OF a lobster (please try not to cringe at my grammarly mess). Usually it is the former which has no lobster in it at all. Soy sauce and sugar, maybe scallions and ginger are all possibilities, though.
At least the employee didn't say, "You don't need to know what's in it."
ReplyDeleteMy friend was told that while she was in Hong Kong (she's Chinese). Her response: "Then I don't need to eat it!"
