I've had some sore spots on my feet recently, and finally got myself to the podiatrist on Thursday. As is so often the case, treatment makes things temporarily worse, and I was very wobbly walking on Thursday afternoon/evening (turns out, you really use your big toes a lot for walking). They've been a bit better each day since, and we'll see how things are this Thursday, when I go back to see him again.
Hopefully things will have fully calmed down before I go up north for the weekend before Christmas, as obviously I will be wearing closed shoes that whole time! I got some warm-and-dries to wear.
They're pretty cozy. And I have a warm winter jacket; no, I don't need it down here, but it's good to have one ready for the need. And I will bring lots of warm, cozy layers, as many as I can fit in a carry-on.Meanwhile, almost two years ago, I wrote about an enormous yarn windfall that came to me, and I'm not sure if I mentioned it earlier this year, but the same woman said she was going to have more to give me. Sign me up!
We agreed that I would be happy to come pick it up, and leaving it in bins was also fine (rather than her rebagging it and bringing it to me, as she did last time). After some delays, Friday was the day, and I went to her house to pick up what she had; she said she 'only got through about half of it' and it did fit into my car, but only just.
So....lots of nice yarn for ccr, some set aside to mail to my knitting friends up north, and making plans for my local knitting friends to come by in January and "shop" here. Then I'll contact the woman I know locally who has a charity knitting group, and she can take the rest for that.
Oh, and at some point, there might be that theoretical other half. Phew!
Who has space for that much yarn?! You're really getting so much out of this contact!
ReplyDeleteShe does have a big house, but I am madly curious how much space is/was dedicated to yarn storage!
DeleteThose shoes look warm and comfy! What was wrong with your feet? That's a LOT of yarn but it sounds like you have plans for it. :)
ReplyDeleteIngrown toenails, and possibly an infection. Don't I lead a glamorous life?
DeleteIt is SO much yarn!
Oh, that's wonderful! The white bins in that middle picture reminds me of when a shop local to my mom was closing, 30 years ago, and she had me mail her $100 check: everything in there was $1/ball.
ReplyDeleteBut when she got there that second time, the only thing left was cotton. So that's what she sent me.
I used it to knit a variant of Kaffe Fassett's Big Diamonds in a large coat-length vest with mother of pearl buttons in turquoise. It's still one of my favorite things, and something to wear when I really want to show off.
Running ends in in cotton was definitely different from merino, though. Sit! Stay!
I'm am so excited to find out what happens to all that yarn! That's an amazing amount of yarn. How did the lady give you all that yarn two years ago and now still have even more to give you??? It's like an endless pit.
ReplyDeleteShe keeps buying it! At least, there were a few packing slips from this year and last, so she hasn't stopped buying. I wonder if she will now?
DeleteI'm just going to say it: that woman has a problem. She is a yarn addict. I wonder if she has huge stashes of other stuff, too, like candles or lotions or scarves or shoes. Maybe she's a shopaholic and yarn isn't the only thing she overbuys. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI wonder! I have so many questions, but I'm trying not to quiz her too much. I mean, it really isn't my business. Not like I'm not happy to take it!
